Skava opens research lab at PSG Tech

Business Line — Skava, which provides mobile commerce solutions to retailers and brands across the globe, has virtually come home by establishing a mobile research lab at the PSG College of Technology here to give a push to further innovation in mobile tech.

The company, headquartered in San Francisco in the US, traces its root to Coimbatore with one of its founders being a former student of PSG Tech here.

IMG_0553In a release issued by the company today, Sudha Varadarajan, co-founder of Skava and a PSG Tech alumni, said that her company had signed a three-year agreement with PSG Tech “to fuel innovation” among its students and keep them abreast of the latest developments in mobile apps.

She said the lab would offer the students “the right facility and learning platform” providing for a seamless transition from student to corporate life. It would ensure that they acquired the ability to pursue the latest “research and innovation in mobile technologies”.

Sudha said that there was an exponential growth in mobile commerce retail sales and expected the mobile tech expertise to continue to be in demand “for the foreseeable future”.

R Rudramoorthy, Principal, PSG Tech, tracing the long association of the college with Skava, said the college students could benefit from Skava’s expertise in ‘mobile commerce, mobile marketing and digital in-store technologies’ and create customised m-commerce (mobile commerce) solutions themselves.

The students would get a platform to identify, discuss and act on pressing technology issues while they were being mentored by Skava.

According to the company Web site, it develops and hosts ‘mobile Web sites, apps, and other digital shopping experiences’ across mobile, tablet, desktop, in-store, and all emerging channels.

With headquarters in San Francisco, it has offices in Atlanta, New York, London, and in Coimbatore. Privately owned Skava lists among its clients Gap, Ralph Lauren, Staples, Toys “R” Us and Macy’s.
